You can change the default theme based on the type of the website developed by the WordPress. You can use free or paid theme. The way to install and customize a free theme for e-commerce site has been shown in this tutorial.
Click on the Appearance-> theme to open the page from where a new theme can be installed.
Click on the Add New Theme button to search and install a theme.
Suppose, an E-commerce based website will be developed here. So, the text, e-commerce has been search here to find out e-commerce related theme. The E-Commerce theme is selected here and Install button is pressed to installed the theme.
After activating the theme, the front page of the website will be looked like the following image.
Click on the WooCommerce->Home to open the configuration page of the WooCommerce.
The following page will appear if you open the WooCommerce Home page for the first time. Click on the Set up my store button to open the setup page of the WooCommerce.
Select the first option and press on the Continue button.
Setup your store name, type, location, and email. Next, press the Continue button.
Select the necessary options for boosting the site and press on the Continue button.
Next step is to start customizing the e-commerce site. Click on the Start customizing button.
Here, you can customize different options of he selected theme. Click on the Go to the customizer button.
The following page with the following options will appear to customize the theme. Click on the Site Identity link to open the options for changing the site identity.
Add the Tagline of the site that will be shown below the site title. After change, Click on the Publish button.
Now, refresh the front page. The following change will be appeared on the front page.
